Taylor Elementary Assistant Principal Sallye Norris has been named the 2020 Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) Region 10 Elementary Assistant Principal of the Year.
Each TEPSA region selects a Region Assistant Principal of the Year in recognition of the exceptional leadership of the people responsible for the day-to-day operations of schools.
Norris is in her 18th year in education and has a heart for elementary staff and students. As a teacher, she taught every grade except for fourth, including art.
Her favorite part of being an assistant principal is the opportunity to touch the lives of so many.
“Every day is different and I cherish the Taylor community and the relationships we have in support of the students,” Norris said. “We are a family that welcomes everyone and we strive to make sure that everyone feels at home here.”
Principal Christy Garza is proud to have Norris on the leadership team.
“Sallye is an amazing example of the importance of having an effective AP,” Garza said. “She supports everyone unconditionally and leads with independence and love.
“She helps us keep moving forward for the benefit of our students.”
Norris enjoys guiding students, especially when they are having a tough day.
“I want students to trust me so that they have another person they can turn to here at Taylor to help guide them to make good choices,” Norris said. “Building relationships while keeping students accountable is a pillar of how I go about my day. I’m inspired by my mother who led by example.”
Norris will be celebrated in June at an awards dinner in Austin.
Region Assistant Principals of the Year are eligible to apply for the National Assistant Principal of the Year. Best of luck in the next stage!
