Professional Learning Department Wins Award

Jan 27, 2020

Congratulations to the Frisco ISD Professional Learning Department, which has been recognized by Learning Forward-Texas with the District Excellence in Professional Learning Award.

This award honors results-driven district-wide professional learning programs designed to show an impact on student achievement.

The FISD professional learning team includes Managing Director of Professional Learning Sherri Wakeland, professional learning coordinators Dr. Mindy Blackman and Ashley Nelson and secretary Kristen Rouse.

In addition to managing district professional learning opportunities for over 7,000 employees,  the professional learning team provides leadership growth opportunities, supports professional learning efforts with campus leadership, manages compliance training and continual improvement planning.

“We are excited about the Professional Learning Framework that our team rolled out last year and have continued to refine,” Wakeland said. “Our Framework supports district, campus and personal professional learning to meet the needs of all FISD students.”

Changes based on the new Framework include reimagining first- and second-year teacher support, tailoring campus support and creating multiple resources for teachers to assist with their personalized learning goals. These include blended learning modules and a curated resources site currently in development.

The District has been invited to receive the award during the Texas Association of School Administrators Mid-Winter Conference on January 29 in Austin.

“It is clear to the Learning Forward Texas Board of Directors that Frisco ISD is creating a culture of student achievement through standards-based personalized professional learning,” said Terri Iles, Learning Forward executive director. “We are proud that the District is committed to life long learning and the success of teachers and students.”

The District is committed to relevant and innovative professional learning that ultimately benefits over 63,000 students and their families in the community.
