Frisco ISD Offers Earlier Time Frame for Student Transfer Requests

Dec 02, 2019

Each year, elementary and middle school students in Frisco ISD have the opportunity to transfer to a different campus through an application process. Students can transfer at the semester or in anticipation of the coming school year.

This year, Frisco ISD has moved up the transfer date window for the 2020-21 school year to help provide peace of mind to families as they plan their year, while also allowing the District to better plan for staffing and program needs.

“It is important to the District that parents know they have the ability to transfer their student to another campus and by moving up the timeline, we hope to provide comfort in a decision well in advance of the school year,” said Dr. Clarence Williams, executive director of support services.

When reviewing petitions for student transfer, the District considers each request on an individual basis but strives for consistency throughout the process. In addition, approval for one year does not guarantee or imply the approval of future transfers to the same campus or feeder campus.

Students can transfer intradistrict to campuses with a projected enrollment of less than 90% capacity for grades K-8. Transfer requests submitted for campuses other than those listed on the District website will not be considered. Click here for the list of eligible campuses.

The District hopes this earlier window will assist campuses, parents and staff in better serving students.

2019 Second-Semester Transfers

The second-semester student transfer application window will be open December 9 through noon on December 20.

Parents interested in learning more information can find additional details on the student transfer section of the FISD website.

If approved, the student will start at the new campus on Tuesday, January 7.

2020-21 School Year Student Transfer Window

Dates have also been set for student transfer requests for the the upcoming 2020-21 school year:

  • FISD staff requests accepted from January 13 – 17

  • General Public requests accepted from January 20 – February 7

  • General Public and Senior Rule requests accepted July 14 – 29

Senior Rule requests are submitted over the summer in the interest of students who attended a Frisco ISD campus their entire junior year and would like to stay at the same campus during their senior year, even if they move out of their zone.

The Administrative Guidelines provide an in-depth clarification of the transfer policy and priority guidelines. Any questions should be directed to Susan Dye.
