Scoggins and Centennial Teachers Recognized by VFW Post 8273
Centennial High School science teacher Shannon Rosenfield and Scoggins Middle School social studies teacher Charles Wilder were selected as VFW Post 8273's Smart/Maher Citizenship Teacher award winners. Both teachers will receive a cash prize and advance to another level of judging. Best of luck as they advance to District!
FISD Volleyball Players Earn District Honors
Congratulations to the volleyball players who have been named to the 9-5A All-District teams. Liberty High School’s Jenna Wenaas was named the 9-5A Most Valuable Player after leading her team to a perfect 18-0 record in District play. Click here to see the long list of District volleyball honorees.
Bright Academy Robotics Teams Earn Perfect Scores
The fourth and fifth grade Bright Academy robotics teams participated in the FIRST Lego League competition this past weekend. The students programmed an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game) and developed a solution to a problem they had identified, while applying FIRST Core Values. In their first year of competition, the fifth grade team came in second in the Core Values section. Both teams received a perfect score on one of the missions in the Robot Game competition.
Students Progress in Lions Club International Art Competition
Congratulations to art students Zoe Langford of Vandeventer Middle School and Tia Yang of Fowler Middle School for progressing to the district round of judging in the Lions Club International Art Competition. The Lions Club encourages students to create posters on the theme “Journey for Peace” in the hope that their visions of peace will inspire the world through their art and creativity. Frisco Rotary Honors Centennial Students
Congratulations to Centennial High School students Anisha Holla and Hamza Suhail, who were selected as the Frisco Rotary Students of the Month. Holla is a senior who has participated in DECA, HOSA, Key Club, National Honor Society, ISM, speech and debate and Spanish National Honor Society. She is a National Merit Semifinalist and National AP Scholar who wants to major in biology with the ultimate goal of attending medical school. Suhail has participated in DECA, HOSA, Academic Decathlon, National Honor Society and ISM. Suhail is interested in pursuing studies in business and public policy.
Drumlines Compete at Lone Star Classic Competition
Last week, Frisco ISD drumlines competed at the Lone Star Classic Drumline Competition in Lewisville. The Lone Star Classic is the largest high school drumline contest in Texas. The Wakeland drumline earned fourth place, while Lone Star ranked eighth and Independence ranked eleventh. Independence student leaders Abiel Issac and Jamison Woolford won the "Best Tenor Line" award for the second year in a row. Congratulations to all of the FISD drumlines on their 2019 marching season.
