Frisco ISD is accelerating plans to build a new elementary school to serve students in the growing northwest corner of the school district.
Elementary school #43 will be constructed northeast of FM 423 and Rockhill Parkway on a site adjacent to the Somerset Park and Hollyhock subdivisions.
Construction is slated to begin next summer so that the school will be ready for the start of the 2021-22 school year. Attendance zones will be created in fall 2020.
The campus will relieve nearby elementary schools, which have seen increases in enrollment as new homes are built in the area.
FISD plans to use a modified version of a previous elementary school design for elementary #43. Stantec Architecture will make changes to the design to include more open and flexible spaces, which are ideal for collaboration and active learning.
For construction, FISD will utilize the construction manager at-risk delivery method in order to maximize opportunities for more expedient planning, scheduling and pre-construction cost estimating. A project delivery method lays out the roles and responsibilities of various parties in planning, designing and constructing a new facility.
“Construction manager at-risk provides the best overall balance of qualifications and value for selecting builders who have demonstrated past success in cost estimating, constructability reviews and construction process management for projects where the schedule is a critical driver,” wrote Trey Laird, principal with Stantec Architecture, in recommending the delivery method to the District. “Construction manager at-risk offers more flexibility in scheduling and accelerating work to help assure successful completion within challenging construction timeframes and provides better selection and mobilization of subcontractors in the resource stressed North Texas construction market.”
