Middle School Students Program Robots in Star Wars-Themed Competition
Congratulations to teams from Griffin, Staley and Pioneer Heritage middle schools for taking first, second and third place, respectively, in the 2019 FISD Robotics Competition Robo Wars. Students built and programmed robots using LEGO Mindstorms to complete various tasks, mimicking possible tasks a robot may undertake when fighting as part of the rebellion. The winning team from Griffin included team members Aidan Tenkhoff, Daniel Sun, Hayden Vedra and Ryan Guerra, coached by Chris Beran.
Third Graders at Fisher Connect with Magazine Editors
Students in Krista Titchener’s third grade class at Fisher Elementary were invited to Skype with editors of Scholastic News, the nonfiction current events magazine. Titchener uses the magazine during reading instruction. Students got to share insight with the editors about their favorite articles and what articles they would like to see in the future, as well as ask the editors questions, such as how they decide what to include in each issue.
