Purefoy Represents FISD at WE Day Event
A fifth grader at Purefoy Elementary School took the stage this week at the Majestic Theater in Dallas as part of a celebration of efforts to positively impact the world. Jude Robbins was selected to address thousands of students at the WE Day Texas event. Purefoy is a WE school – a campus dedicated to encouraging students to make a difference in their community and around the globe. Robbins spoke about service projects at Purefoy, including the school’s work to support Ronald McDonald House, Frisco Family Services and DeQueen Elementary in Port Arthur following Hurricane Harvey. The Allstate Foundation awarded Purefoy with a $1,500 grant to support future service projects and counselor Tiffany Ragland received $500 through an educator grant from Walgreens.
Centennial Senior Surprised at School with Full-Ride Scholarship
Erika Rebollo Diaz, a senior at Centennial High School, is one of only eight students selected for the STEM Scholar program at Texas Christian University. TCU representatives surprised Diaz on campus this week. The award comes with a $275,000 scholarship that covers tuition, room and board, books, study abroad, internships and research opportunities. The purpose of the STEM Scholar program is to encourage and support scholars who are underrepresented in the STEM field.
Champions Crowned at Middle School Track Meet
Congratulations to all the winners of the Frisco ISD Middle School Track Meet, which was held Wednesday at FISD Memorial Stadium. Hunt won the girls eighth grade team title, while Staley won the eighth grade boys team title. In the seventh grade competition, Roach was the girls team champion and Maus was the boys team champion.
FFA Students Compete at Career Development Contest
Congratulations to the FFA programs of Centennial, Liberty, Memorial and Wakeland high schools for achieving top ten finishes in Farm Business Management, Milk Quality Products and Poultry at the Decatur and Northwest ISD CDE contests. In addition, congratulations to Brogan Guina (Liberty), Paige Musselman (Wakeland), Claire Webb (Liberty), Dallas Laber (Independence) and Ben Hanko (Centennial) for achieving top 10 placements in their respective events.
