The University Interscholastic League soccer playoffs begin this week, and Frisco ISD has eight teams – representing seven schools – in the boys and girls brackets.
Wakeland is the boys champion in District 9-5A, the district made up of the 10 FISD high schools. The Wakeland boys, who are the defending 5A state champions, are joined in the boys bracket by Frisco, Heritage and Lone Star.
Independence is the girls champion in 9-5A and is joined in the girls playoff bracket by Wakeland, Centennial and Lebanon Trail, which won a play-in game against Liberty to earn the final postseason spot. The Wakeland girls won the 5A state title last year, combining with the boys to make WHS the first school to sweep the boys and girls titles since 1985.
