Reedy Librarian is the TCEA Librarian of the Year
Nancy Jo Lambert, librarian at Reedy High School, is the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) Library Media Specialist of the Year. This award honors a librarian or media specialist who improves their library using technology. In addition, the finalists must consistently collaborate with administrators, teachers and students to support technology integration.
FISD Coaches, Athletes Honored at Regional Swimming and Diving Meet
Congratulations to Reedy High School Senior Abby Koczo, who was named the Outstanding Girls Swimmer at the 5A Region III Swimming and Diving Championships last weekend. Koczo won the 200-yard individual medley, the 100-yard backstroke and swam the third leg of Reedy’s champion 200-yard freestyle relay team. Reedy coach Jennifer Beagle was named the Regional Girls Coach of the Year after her girls team won the 5A-III championship. Wakeland coach Melissa Howard, whose boys team was the 5A-III runner-up, was named the Regional Boys Coach of the Year. View more details and results.
CTE Students Earn Certifications in Veterinary Medical Applications
Congratulations to students at the Career and Technical Education Center who recently earned the Elanco Veterinary Medical Applications Certification. Benjamin Hanko, Faith McDonald and Zelica Williams-Yousuf from Centennial High School and Sergio Acuna from Heritage High School each completed the required coursework and passed a rigorous final exam in the areas of veterinary science and veterinary medical applications, including clinical terminology, animal handling and care skills, common laboratory procedures and more. The certification reflects current industry standards, enhances student résumés and helps them stand out to prospective colleges and employers. Last school year, more than 1,800 high school students earned a career and industry certification through their FISD coursework. A total of 22 different certifications are available.
Reedy Cellist is Headed to Carnegie Hall
Andrew Choi, a senior cellist in the Reedy Orchestras, was selected as a Finalist for the 2019 International High School Honors Performance Series. As a result, Andrew will perform this weekend with the International High School Honors String Orchestra at Carnegie Hall in New York City under the direction of renowned conductor Kirt Mosier.
