Did you know Dallas Stars goalie Ben Bishop is a Frisco ISD graduate? Or that hundreds of special education students take courses at the Career and Technical Education Center each year? Learn about that and much more in the January issue of FISD’s own magazine, FOCUS.

Legislative Session Begins in Austin

The new session of the Texas Legislature is underway, with lawmakers promising to tackle school finance and property tax reform. More than 200 bills and resolutions have been filed that could impact public education across the state. Frisco ISD will be an active partner with the Legislature to advocate for priorities related to funding, accountability and social and emotional awareness.

Course Incorporates Business and Community Involvement

Students taking the entrepreneurship course at four Frisco ISD high schools are getting outside expertise and hands-on experience thanks to new curriculum and the support of business and community volunteers. INCubatoredu encourages problem solving and innovation by tasking students with researching and developing products for a specific customer base. At the end of the school year, students will pitch their products to investors in the hopes of securing funding to turn their business plans into reality. Dozens of volunteers are still needed to help mentor and coach the student teams.

Develop the Whole Child

Frisco ISD is committed to supporting students’ social, emotional and mental health needs. Each month, teachers share lessons with students to help them develop important life skills and positive character traits.

January’s focus is zest. Students with zest actively participate in their learning by asking questions and listening closely. Their enthusiasm is infectious. Help your student practice by turning negative statements into positive ones.
