Frisco ISD to Offer IB Diploma Programme

Sep 25, 2018

IB Diploma ProgrammeFrisco ISD will host two informational nights this fall for current eighth grade students and their families to learn more about the planned launch of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) at Frisco High School.

The IB Diploma Programme is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education that prepares juniors and seniors for success at university and in life beyond. It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students.

The programme has gained recognition and respect from the world’s leading universities, and college credit earned through IB is widely accepted at universities and colleges around the globe.

Students in the Class of 2023, or current eighth graders, would be the first class eligible to take advantage of the Diploma Programme if FISD’s application to offer the programme is accepted. The first IB courses would be taught when students are juniors in the 2021-22 school year.

Although it will be a few years before the District can offer IB, FISD will utilize an admissions process for the programme this fall. Students who enter the programme will begin at Frisco High School in August 2019 and will be encouraged to take Advanced Placement (AP) and other rigorous coursework during their freshman and sophomore years.

Frisco High School staff will provide students with academic guidance and additional support to ensure they are prepared for success in the IB programme. Additionally, students will be able to begin building relationships with staff and students from across the District in their cohort.

Two informational nights will be held on October 25 and November 7 for students and parents to learn more about the programme. Each event begins at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Frisco High School, 6401 Parkwood Boulevard.

The admission form to express interest in participating in the IB Diploma Programme at FHS will go live online on November 9.
