Bright Academy Students Lend a Hand at Cowboys’ Camp
Fifty lucky students from the new Bright Academy got the chance to interact with Dallas Cowboys football players at The Star last week. The students served as official helmet carriers through a program sponsored by Albertson’s and NFL Play60. The students got the chance to meet and take a few photos with the players and helped them carry their helmets onto the field before practice.
Wakeland, Reedy Runners Win Titles at Frisco ISD Invitational
Cross-country runners from Wakeland and Reedy high schools took home top honors at last weekend’s Frisco ISD Invitational at Warren Sports Complex.
Wakeland won the boys and girls team titles at the meet, which attracted nearly 30 teams from across the Dallas area. Wakeland’s Nick Hendrix won the boys race in a time of 15 minutes, 28 seconds, and Reedy’s Colleen Stegmann won the girls race with a time of 18:27. Heritage’s Josiah Asmerom was the boys runner-up and Liberty’s Amelia Jauregui was the girls runner-up.
Nelson Middle School Students Win Mural Contest
Congratulations to the winners of the Nelson Middle School Back the Blue Wall Mural Contest offered through the school’s School Resource Officer Kayla Behrle. The winning teams of the art contest will each have their winning mural painted on one of Officer Behrle’s office walls. The winners, who tied for the honor, are Aishwarya Kothalanka and Hanna Koronkiewicz, who designed an eagle with the American flag behind it, and Praneel Seth and Pranav Singaraju, whose mural shows an eagle flying over a police badge.
