Kuykendall Named VP of Texas High School Athletic Directors Association
Congratulations to FISD Director of Athletics David Kuykendall, who this summer was elected as vice president of the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association (THSADA). Kuykendall, who has served as an FISD athletic administrator for 30 years, will fill the president-elect position for one year before serving a one-year term as THSADA president.
Congratulations to Special Olympic Bronze Medalists Matthew and Bethany Abebe
Team Texas Frisco ISD athlete Matthew Abebe and Unified Partner Bethany Abebe earned two bronze medals at the 2018 Special Olympics Games in Seattle in July. Matthew Abebe is a bowler with the Frisco Flyers Special Olympics team and competes with his sister as a unified team, which is made up of one Special Olympian with a partner athlete without disabilities.
Congratulations to Ryan O’Hearn and His Proud Mom!
Chris O’Hearn, counselor at Robertson Elementary, is the mother of Major League Baseball (MLB) player Ryan O’Hearn, a former Wakeland High School athlete. O’Hearn played in his first MLB game for the Kansas City Royals on July 31 and hit a two-run homer his second at bat. Way to go!
Centennial Science Teacher Takes Part in Externship and Wins NAGT Award
Sabrina Ewald has once again been selected for the Outstanding Earth Science Teacher Award from the National Association of Geoscience Teachers, an honor she also achieved in 2016. This award-winning science teacher from Centennial High School was also selected for the TEX² teacher externship with NASA Texas Space Grant Consortium held at The University of Texas at Austin this summer, with follow-up taking place during the first semester of the 2018-2019 school year. During the externship, teachers visit NASA facilities, work with scientists and engineers that are analyzing earth-observing satellite data, tour NASA labs and facilities and question astronauts and engineers about degrees and opportunities.
Pioneer Heritage Teacher Presents at ISTE Conference
Nichole Aryanpur, robotics teacher at Pioneer Heritage Middle School, recently presented at the International Society of Technology in Education Conference as a Master Educator. The session, “Redefining Student Success through STEAM and the Element of Play,” addressed the importance of student collaboration, competition and learning through failure.
