Over two days and 36 holes at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown, the Centennial High School boys golfers showed they had the skill and mental toughness to compete with the best in the state. On Tuesday, the Titans brought a trophy back to Frisco that proves it.
Centennial finished as the 5A state runner-up in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) championship. The Titans finished the two-day, two-round tournament tied with Cedar Park and then won a playoff to take sole possession of second place behind Highland Park.
"This group has been hard at work since August, and it feels great to end the season on the podium at state," Centennial coach Brooke Donovan said. "I am extremely proud of what they have accomplished this season."
Centennial’s state competitors were Austin Coyle, Preston Cox, Henry Frizzell, Noah Koster and Nathan Weber. Frizzell was the Titans’ top finisher, taking fifth place among 5A individuals after solid back-to-back rounds of 72.
The UIL State Tournament for girls golfers is next week, and Centennial and Liberty High School will compete in 5A. The Lebanon Trail girls will compete for the 4A title.
