Students from Centennial, Lebanon Trail and Lone Star high schools competed in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Academic State Meet, held May 4-5 on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin.
UIL offers 29 academic contests at the high-school level that complement the academic curriculum and provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of specific skills. Students are challenged to acquire higher levels of knowledge, confront issues of importance and think critically and creatively.
Two students from Lone Star High School won medals in their respective events.
Congratulations to Ritvik Ramakrishnan, who won third place in Science and had the second-highest subscore in Physics, and Yogita Manikandan, who won fourth place in Spelling and Vocabulary.
Other state qualifiers included Oliver Zhou of Lebanon Trail, who competed in 4A Science, and the Centennial team of Devon Kelly, Arham Siddiqui, Rhythm Garg and Emily Peterson, who competed in 5A Computer Science.
Frisco ISD will also send students to compete in the UIL Speech State Meet later this month.
