CTE Center Recognized for Outstanding Engineering Program
Frisco ISD’s Career and Technical Education Center has earned a Project Lead The Way Distinguished School designation for 2017-18. The CTE Center is one of just 340 PLTW schools across the country to receive the honor, which recognizes schools committed to increasing student access, engagement and achievement in PLTW programs. The CTE Center is home to PLTW Engineering, which empowers high school students to step into the role of an engineer and adopt a problem-solving mindset.
Pearson Students Win Grand Prize at Regional Science and Engineering Fair
A pair of students from Pearson Middle School are among 26 Frisco ISD students with projects advancing to the Texas State Science and Engineering Fair.
Vivek Kogilathota and Shantikiran Chanal won the grand prize in the junior division for life sciences at the regional science fair in Dallas this past weekend. Their research on assistive devices for the visually impaired won first prize in the biomedical engineering and translational medical science category.
Other FISD students winning first prize in their categories at regionals were fellow Pearson students Isha Riaz, Shreya Gharge and Carter Smith and Fowler Middle School students Aayush Kadakia and Anika Patel.
Sports-Themed STEM Lessons Help Fowler Student Wins Scholarship
Fowler Middle School student Harsha Gadiraju won a $1,000 college scholarship for an essay describing what he learned through Future Goals: Hockey Scholar EVERFI course, a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) program utilized in Frisco ISD classrooms. Gadiraju hopes to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology and become a game developer. Read his essay.
Liberty, Lone Star Basketball Players Honored
In voting by Frisco ISD basketball coaches, Liberty High School’s Zion Richardson was selected as the District 13-5A boys Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Lone Star High School’s Mallory Adams was selected as the girls MVP. Richardson, a junior guard, and Adams, a senior guard, led their teams to District 13-5A championships.
