School supply donations for the school year continued to grow within the Partners in Education office even as students walked through the school doors Monday morning. The Partners in Education staff help civic groups, businesses, corporations and individuals successfully partner with the District.
Large bags of crayons from Halff Associates were brought to the FISD Administration building on the first day of school. The crayons were part of a now disassembled mosaic that incorporated almost 125,000 crayons. The mosaic was an entry in the annual Retrospect Competition.Halff representative John Laurence notes that Halff is still cultivating creativity for the future as it donates bags of the crayons to local school districts, including FISD. FISD staff will share the colorful bounty from Halff with the District's elementary art teachers.
Richard Hill of Champion Martial Arts is another partner who worked with his martial art students and a Girl Scout troop to collect several bins of school supplies this summer, which he specifically targeted for donation during the first week of school.
“We are located near several Frisco elementary schools,” Hill said, quickly naming off Shawnee Trail, Spears, Bright, and Christie. “So we wanted to support the whole district, not just one school. Hill has put his trust in the Partners staff to make sure the donations get to the students who need them. “They can identify who needs it the most.” About 10 percent of FISD students have been identified as being in need economically.
