FISD Crowns Spelling Bee Champion

Jan 12, 2017

More than forty elementary and middle school students put their spelling skills to the test during the Third Annual Frisco ISD Spelling Bee Wednesday at Liberty High School.

Each participant won his or her school spelling bee to earn the right to compete for the District title.

Sixth grader Anveeth Vietla of Fowler Middle School was named the champion, after correctly spelling the word “mealymouthed” in the sixth round. Mealymouthed means afraid to speak frankly or straightforwardly.

The battle to determine the other top finalists lasted into the 19th round.

The top six finishers qualify to compete at the Collin County Spelling Bee, scheduled February 1 at 6 p.m. at Lebanon Trail High School, 5151 Ohio Drive in Frisco.

The winner of the Collin County Spelling Bee moves on to the Dallas Morning News Regional Spelling Bee later this spring.
