Mission Statement
To provide the at-risk student an alternative educational program that will guide her/him to be a responsible and productive individual who exhibits appropriate social and academic skills. Our goal is to not only return the student to her/his home campus but to the community with successful academic and social skills as life-long learners.
Statement of Philosophy
The Student Opportunity Center staff believe that all children can learn and should have the opportunity to reach their maximum potential through a safe and orderly learning environment. Students who meet district criteria may best be served through placement in an alternative program that provides differentiated instruction to facilitate learning.
The purpose of the Student Opportunity Center programs is to provide identified students with an alternative and innovative instructional environment which helps motivate the student to develop appropriate coping skills. The programs are designed to challenge students academically (while on our campus, students will receive appropriate instruction as designed by their home campus teachers) and socially by using problem solving instructional strategies and a strong behavior management system. The programs have trained professional staff who understand how to handle conflict, crisis, and to provide viable techniques on how to change behaviors.
