MATH/SCIENCE TEAM

Congratulations to the Math and Science team. Several students won individual awards at the recent competition, they are: Aaron Hintz, Yosh Kadakia, Vishruth Mullapudi, Angeera Naser, Ramya Parthipa, Sabrina Peng, Alexander Yang, Udgam Goyal, Rebecca Lee, Srija Nalla, Sindhu Senthilkumar, Vik Shirvakar, James Woods, and Anishka Kappalayial. 6th grade won first place in Science and 7th grade won first place in Math. Congratulations to all that completed.

STUDENT COUNCIL

It is that time of the year again!! The annual Fowler Talent Show is around the corner! Packets are now available in the front office! Talented Fowler Students of ALL gradesare invited to perform dance routines, sing songs, comedy acts, or play musical instruments. Try-outs are December 15th after school in the cafeteria!!Packets are due by December 14th to Miss Avant in room 603!

CHOIR

Back by popular demand!The Fowler Falcon Choir will be sellingbottlecap necklaces and dogtags during all lunches tomorrow, and Friday this week.But this time we have more designs! You can purchase items with the Fowler logo AND shop our new designs. Look for your favorite sport, club, and even Twilight themes. They make great holiday gifts! Again,bottlecap necklaces are $5.00 and come with interchangeable bands.Dogtags are $7.00 and come with neck chainand a key chain. Stop by our table at lunch andshow your Fowler Falcon spirit!

TECH CLUB

Tech Club meeting is tomorrow from 4:05 - 5:15 PM in room 621. Please get all of your belongings and instruments BEFORE you come to Tech Club

STUDENTS – a safety reminder. If you need to cross the street (called Enchanted Ridge) which is on the east side of the school by the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade wings, you must walk to the stop signs and look for cars before you cross this street. The stop signs are located on the north and south ends of Enchanted Ridge. We have had several reports of students not stopping to look for cars before they cross Enchanted Ridge.

CELL PHONE REMINDERS: Students, you must have your cell phones turned off and in your locker. Cell phones may not be in pockets, purses or any other place but your locker during the school day.

YEARBOOK

Did you know that there is a link on Fowler’s homepage where you can share pictures that you have taken of events at Fowler with the yearbook staff? Right now the yearbook staff is looking for pictures of you during your Thanksgiving Break. Find the link and share your pictures today!

GREEN LEADERSHIP TEAM

LIBRARY

Attention Falcons: The library will be closed Friday before school so that Mrs. Bellomy can meet with the new Library Security Team. You are welcome to visit later that day or after school. Repeat: The library will be closed this Friday, Dec. 11 before school.

Library Advisory Board: We will have a LAB Lunch this Friday, Dec. 11 in the library. You’ll be able to look at the new books at that time. See you then!

Attention Mrs. Fitzgerald’s Texas History Students: Remember that your mission projects need to be picked up from the library today or tomorrow. We have thoroughly enjoyed viewing them in the library and were very impressed with your hard work. Thank you for sharing them with us and for taking them home by the end of the day tomorrow.

Congratulations to our Special Olympic Bowlers. They did an awesome job last week at our area Bowling Tournament. They competed against 10 area school districts and here are the results:

ANGEL PROGRAM

The final results for the Angel Program competition are in! Here are the winning classes from each grade level:

6th Grade- Mrs. Purdom’s Advisory class won with $13.59 per student.

7th Grade Mrs. Millstone’s 9th period Math class won with $21.40 per student.

8th Grade Mrs. Sitzler’s 9th period Algebra class won with $9.75 per student.

These winning classes have won the opportunity to play a basketball game against their teachers! The game will be held on December 9th! Thank you to everyone who donated and helped to make this year’s Angel Program a great success!

MATH/SCIENCE TEAM:

Attention Math and Science team: If you plan on attending the December 5 competition, permission slips are due to Mr Peterson or Ms Edwards no later than 1st period this Friday (November 20). No late permission slips will be accepted. Also, t-shirt money is due to Mr Peterson or Ms Edwards by Thursday November 19. If you plan on going to competitions, you need to purchase a shirt.

CHEER

Congratulations to the Fowler Middle School Cheerleaders for winning "Best Middle School" float at the Community parade. This is the second year for the cheerleaders to participate in the event and the second time they have taken home this award.

SPANISH CLUB

Attention all Spanish Club members: There is a mandatory meeting in Mrs. Christensen's room tomorrow morning (Thursday) at 8:10. If you are unable to attend, you must let Mrs. Christensen or Ms. Murray know asap. Again, don't forget this meeting is for ALL Spanish club members.

BAND

This past Saturday theFowler Bandhad over 77 students audition for the Middle School All-Region Band. Out of the 16 schools that attended Fowler had the most studentsmake the region band with65 students receiving a band placement and 5 students asalternates. Congratulations to all those who competed and achieved the great honor of being nameda member of the All Region Band!

Attention all of you Falcons who are crazy about manga and graphic novels: The first MAD 4 MANGA meeting will be Wednesday, Dec. 2 (the week after the Thanksgiving break) at 8:10 a.m. in the library. 8th graders: Tomorrow is Career Day, and you will be participating all day. You will go to 1st period for attendance and to receive your personal schedule for the day. You will only need a pen or pencil, so please leave all other materials in your locker. We are asking all students to make an effort to dress professionally for this event. PARADE

This Veteran's Weekendhelp honor U.S.military members, past and present at the Frisco Community Parade. The parade route goes down Main Street from Pizza Hut Park to Downtown Frisco and starts at 11 am. The FMS Cheerleaders hope to see you there.

Attention students who visit the library in the morning: If you come in at 8:10, you MUST stay in the library until 8:30. If you want to come in to read or checkout books, we’d love to have you, but you MUST plan to stay the WHOLE time. If you prefer to spend the morning talking with friends, please stay in the cafeteria. The library should be a place where students can read or study before school. CHAIN LINKS CLUB

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS!!! The time has come for our next Chain Links Club meeting. There has been a lot going on at Fowler over the past few weeks, so this is a great time to get together and do something to encourage friends who might be going through a difficult time. We will have a special project for this meeting so we need as much help as possible. The meeting is WEDNESDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 11th at 8:10 am in the FOWLER LIBRARY. Please come and help us out as we work to make a positive difference at Fowler Middle School. Also, remember to bring your paper chain links with you so we can start creating our “chain of kindness”. Remember to have your parents sign the pass in the back of your planner so that you can come to the library and join in the fun. The Fowler Cafe will be serving Big Daddy pizza not Papa Johns this Friday. Well, really the only Friday we will serve Papa Johns is on the Friday that has thin crust pizza on the menu. Every other Friday will be Big Daddy.

Just a reminder 7th and 8th grade girls basketball tryouts will be on Monday, November 9 through Wednesday, November 11. Tryouts will last until 5:30 p.m. each day. ATHLETICS

Last night the 7th Grade Lady Falcon Volleyball Teams won against the Clark Cougars! The girls played great and we had a reallyexciting night of volleyball! Coach Balogh & Coach Fitzgerald are very proud of all of our players for a great season! Also, a big congratulation goes out to all 8th grade Lady Falcon Volleyball players. They wrapped up regular season play last night at Clark with wins coming from the A and C teams. Overall, the A team ended their season with a 7-1 record; the B Team finished up 5-3; and the C team had an UNDEFEATED season w/ a record of 8 wins and ZERO losses!!! Nice job Lady Falcons! Both the 7th & 8th grade will be playing in the district tournament this weekend at Staley M.S.....come out and support your Lady Falcons!

GIRLS BASKETBALL TRYOUTS & PARENT MEETING

Attention students who took art last year. If you left your pottery here to be glazed now is the time you have been waiting for. We will be firing the Kiln on Thursday so you need to stop by the art room before or afterschool Tuesday or Wednesday to glaze your piece. PENTATHALON TEAM

Attention Pentathlon Members: There is a meeting for all members today at 4pm. This is a mandatory meeting and will have very important information given to members. Please be on time.

ATHLETICS

Tonight we will have a basketball and cross country parent meeting in the cafeteria at 6:30 for 7th and 8th grade boys only. If you planon trying out for basketball or run cross country then you need to be at this meeting.

We had an exciting night of volleyball in the 7th Grade gym last night! Your Lady Falcon Volleyball Teams Played Awesome Volleyball! The "B" Team won in 2 quick games!!! The "A" Teamwent 3 games & we ended thenight with a big win overStaley!!

Also, congratulations to the 8th grade Lady Falcon Volleyball Teams for winning their last home games of the season. Nice job defending OUR HOUSE! Come watch us play at Clark on Monday!! Way to Go Lady Falcons!

How does the flu virus travel? Here is an example:

Suzie goes to school feeling fine. While she is in her first period class, her best friend Jill, coughs and sneezes into her hand and then uses Suzie’s pencil. Suzie then types at the same computer that Jill was previously using. After school Jill needs to use Suzie’s cell phone, as Jill is taking into the phone she coughs into the phone. Suzie then uses her cell phone to call her mom. Suzie picks up the virus from Jill. Suzie didn’t remember to wash her hands or use the hand sanitizer before and after each class. She then rubs her eyes at the end of the day because she is tired and now has transferred the virus into her system. Suzie then goes home and enjoys a family movie sharing popcorn with her siblings. Unfortunately, Suzie does not realize that she is spreading the virus around the house, it can take a day or so after you become infected before you show signs of illness. Flu symptoms come on quickly in less then 24 hours. Suzie now has a high fever, severe aches and fatigue; the next three days are spent in bed feeling miserable. Suzie’s mom gives her Tylenol and ibuprofen, and has her take plenty of fluids and rest. On the morning of the fourth day Suzie’s fever is gone and she figures she can come back to school; unfortunately, she is still shedding thousands of flu viruses when she exhales. It has not been 24 hours since her fever broke.

There are several healthy tips Suzie and Jill forgot to observe.

Always cough into your elbow or sleeve, not into your hands.
Use hand sanitizers frequently, before and after each class and before you eat
Do not rub your face with your hands, avoid touch your eyes, nose or mouth with your hands
Stay at home for 24 hours fever free without the use of fever reducing medications.
Studies have shown that 66% of viruses survived for one hour on office equipment like key boards and phones; 33% survived for 18 hours

Ugh, you wake up sneezing, sniffling, coughing and just feel generally miserable. Is it a cold or the flu? Start by taking your temperature. A temperature of 100 degrees or above is almost certainly the flu. Other subtler flu clues include headaches, body aches, and fatigue lasting more than a few days. Your cough, congestion and sore throat are usually more intense with the flu. In contrast, colds usually produce more congestion and sneezing with fewer body aches and headaches. Congratulations to the 8th grade volleyball teams!! They played six games against Stafford last night, and they WON ALL SIX OF THEM!!! Way to go Lady Falcons! We had 3 very exciting matches of 7th Grade Volleyball at Stafford last night!

The "C" team took Stafford to 3 games - Winning 25-15 the first game, but came up short for the match. The "B" team's match also went 3 games - with your Lady Falcons winning the last 2 games25-21 and 25-19 to win the MATCH! The "A" team smashed Stafford in just 2 games, 25-12& 26-24! Way to go Lady Falcon Volleyball Players!

Attention ALL Fowler Students. Fowler Middle School’s BACK_TO_SCHOOL DANCE is this Friday, in the FMS cafeteria. The Theme is “FALCON FIESTA…OLE and we will have a cool DJ with decorations and lights! The 6th grade Dance is from: 4:30pm-6:00pm. The 7th & 8th grade Dance is from: 6pm-8pm. The cost of tickets are: $6 per person IN ADVANCE or you can purchase a ticket at the door the night of the dance for $7.00. You can purchase tickets during all lunches.

Bring money for food and drinks, glow bracelets, flashing glow grills, and photos with your friends.

The Dance is for Current Fowler MS Students ONLY (no guests)

SCHOOL DANCE

Attention ALL Fowler Students. Fowler Middle School’s BACK_TO_SCHOOL DANCE is next Friday, September 11th in the FMS cafeteria. THE Dance Theme is “FALCON FIESTA…OLE! We have a cool DJ with decorations and lights! The dance is hosted by the Falcon Band and is chaperoned by the Band Parents, FMS teachers, and Principals. The 6th grade Dance is from: 4:30pm-6:00pm. The 7th & 8th grade Dance is from: 6pm-8pm. The cost of tickets are: $6 per person IN ADVANCE or you can purchase a ticket at the door the night of the dance for $7.00. (Tickets go on sale the week of the dance during all lunches)

Bring money for food and drinks, glow bracelets, flashing glow grills, and photos with your friends.

The Dance is for Current Fowler MS Students ONLY (no guests)
Students may only attend their grade's dance: 6th graders may NOT attend the 7th & 8th grade dance, and 7th & 8th graders may NOT attend the 6th grade dance.
FMS Dress code is enforced (no costumes allowed)
Dance drop off for the dance is on the West side of the school (by the athletic field), and the dance PICK-UP is in front of the school.

Bring your ticket money next week!

Forms that are turned in without a parent signature will not be accepted. This is the only time during the entire school year when voluntary schedule changes can be requested. There will not be another opportunity during this school year to request a schedule change. Schedule Change Request forms can be picked up in the front office, and they can be found on the Fowler website. See Mrs. Williams or Ms. Cabaniss with questions.

PIANO LESSONS

Do you like or want to Play the Piano? Piano Class is being offered for all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students interested in learning to play the piano! This is for all students, beginning and advanced and is completely free! Come meet with us on Wednesday, September 2nd from 4:00pm to 4:15pm in the choir room for more information.

FUSION

Fusion is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students that love to sing and perform music from TODAY! We will be performing songs you already know by artists and bands you hear on the radio. No auditions necessary – anyone can join us! Don’t like to sing? We also need instrumentalists! If you play piano, guitar, bass, or drums, we need your help! Maybe you don’t like to sing and you don’t play an instrument…. We also need tech people! Come learn about running sound reinforcement equipment (mics, amps, recording) and work behind the scenes! Schedule Changes

NJHS

There will be an NJHS officers meeting this Friday, August 28th at 8:00am in Ms. Foster’s room, 613. Please be on time. This meeting is for Officers only. The meeting for NJHS members will be next Friday, September 4th.

Sign Out Procedures

When it is necessary for a student to leave during the school day, they must be signed out in the office. A parent/guardian must complete check out procedures while the student is being called from class. To insure student safety, we ask that parents/guardians present their drivers license when checking out their student. Students are not permitted to leave class until they are called from class by the front office, thus, please allow 10 to 15 minutes for your child to gather belongings from their locker and arrive in the front office. If the person picking up the student is not a parent/guardian, the identity of that person must be established and permission granted before the student will be released.

STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UP

DROP OFF: In order to facilitate student drop off in the morning, we ask that you not park in the drop off area in front of Fowler and leave your vehicle unattended between the times of 8:00 AM and 8:45 AM.

PICK UP: We also ask that for student pick up in the front of the school and on the East and West side of our building that a single line be formed on the school side of the driveways.

As always, your help is appreciated in making this area as safe as possible for all of our students as they arrive at school and return home.

Please allow time if you need to pick up your child for a doctor’s appointment, etc. So that they will miss minimal class time, we will send for them when you arrive to check them out of school. Please remember a form of ID when arriving.

After School Expectations

Unless you are staying for tutorials or a planned practice that is supervised by school personnel, all students should be off campus by 4:15. No one should be hanging around at school unsupervised, waiting for a ride. Students need to make arrangements to picked up immediately after school or immediately following your school sanctioned event.

Dress Code

This is just a reminder about school dress code for girl students: If you are wearing spandex leggings under your skirts or dresses, the skirt should still meet dress code requirements by reaching the end of your fingertips when you arms are down by your side. If it does not meet this requirement, then you will be sent to the office for dress code.

After School Events

All Fowler MS students are invited to after-school events to show support for your team. However, the students need to leave campus after school to go home and take care of their homework before returning for the games. All students that attend the any school events will be expected to follow the school dress code Students will need to sit in the student section of the stands unless accompanied by a parent. If your dress or behavior is unacceptable, you will be asked to leave. Please make sure you pick up your child no later than 15 minutes after the last game ends. It is a large inconvenience to our staff when you arrive late.
