Middle School Openings and Zoning Information
This is a message from Frisco ISD. As you know, the district has been monitoring growth trends and economic factors at the local and national level to gauge impact on enrollment projections within the current middle school zones of Roach, Griffin and Pioneer Heritage prior to making a final decision on the opening and the attendance zones for the three new schools – Maus, Cobb and Hunt. The Administration plans to make a recommendation at the January 11 Board meeting to open all three middle schools in the fall of 2010. Input has been taken throughout the rezoning process and the draft zones will be the recommended zones. Please refer to the Frisco ISD website for more information at http://www.friscoisd.org/. In addition to setting zones, the Board will consider limiting additional middle school transfers out of the six newly constituted middle schools for one year to ensure consistency in the enrollment numbers for the first year of opening the three new schools. An additional communication will be sent following the final decision and information will also be updated on the website. Principals will be named in March and letters will be sent to next year’s students, who will also be involved in the mascot naming process. Thank you.

New Laws Concerning Child Passenger Safety Seats
There is a new law effective September 1, 2009, that is listed below regarding child passenger safety seats:
TRC § 545.412. Child Passenger Safety Seat Systems; Offense.
- (a) A person commits an offense if the person operates a passenger vehicle, transports a child who is younger than eight years of age, unless the child is taller than four feet, nine inches, and does not keep the child secured during the operation of the vehicle in a child passenger safety seat system according to the instructions of the manufacturer of the safety seat system.
- (b) An offense under this section is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than $25 for the first offense and not more than $250 for a second or subsequent office.
Tickets for this offense cannot be issued until June 1, 2010. Police officers are allowed to issue a warning before that date. However, the old law remains in effect until then and requires children younger than five and less than 36 inches in height be in a child safety seat—and tickets can still be issued for this violation.
