Motto: "Together Everyone Achieves More"
Mission: The mission of Otis Spears Elementary School is to empower children to become lifelong

learners through knowledge and experiences.

A Message from the Principal

Martha Moroch, Principal

We want Spears Elementary to be a school that truly reflects our motto “TEAM…Together Everyone Achieves More!”  We hope that you will join the Spears TEAM and pledge to be a partner in your child’s education by joining PTA and volunteering in our school.  Please read through the Spears Elementary Volunteer Handbook on our school website www.friscoisd.org/schools/elementary/spears. Print and sign the Statement of Commitment in the handbook and return it to your child’s teacher.  With that, and your cleared background check through FISD, you’re ready to volunteer!  Complete the background check on-line at www.volunteer.friscoisd.org.

I am honored to be the principal of Otis Spears Elementary School and am excited to be part of the outstanding Frisco Independent School District. As a lifelong educator, my experience includes twenty-nine years in public school education, and for the past seventeen years, I have served as an elementary principal. I love working with the wonderful students, supportive parents, and an exceptional faculty and staff at Spears Elementary. We work hard as a TEAM because Together Everyone Achieves More. All parents are invited to participate in their child's education and to be involved in our school community. We have an awesome PTA with many opportunities for volunteering. Please visit Spears Elementary and become a part of our school TEAM. Visitors are always welcome!

Welcome to 2010!

As we begin a new year, I have been reflecting on how our focus as a nation has shifted even more to a global perspective. As we connect with friends from far away in the blink of an eye, we also connect with the struggles and hardships in lands that seem worlds apart from our own realities. Education in our nation is changing to prepare our students for success in such a closely connected, information-driven world. I am excited about what that means for our students. Keeping this in mind, I see students as problem-solvers, innovators, and life-long learners that will meet the challenges of the 21st Century and shape the world into something better than what we've known. Your children inspire me each day in these beliefs, and I feel grateful to play a part in their first steps into the future!

Spears Elementary’s accomplishments are impressive, and I consider it a privilege to serve on such a dynamic educational team. My family and I moved to the area from Shreveport, Louisiana eight years ago.  My husband Gene and I have been married for 20 years, and we have two children.  My son Justin is 18, and he attends the University of Texas at Austin.   My daughter Rani is 13, and she is an 8th grader at Griffin Middle School. We have enjoyed becoming Texans and the opportunities for education, recreation, and cultural awareness available in this beautiful state.

I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Texas at Dallas with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies along with Teacher Certification and earned my Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University of Texas.  I have been working for the last four years with Fisher Elementary students. I am dedicated to our students’ educational success, and I look forward to a school year full of fun and exciting learning opportunities at Spears!

Middle School Openings and Zoning Information

This is a message from Frisco ISD. As you know, the district has been monitoring growth trends and economic factors at the local and national level to gauge impact on enrollment projections within the current middle school zones of Roach, Griffin and Pioneer Heritage prior to making a final decision on the opening and the attendance zones for the three new schools – Maus, Cobb and Hunt. The Administration plans to make a recommendation at the January 11 Board meeting to open all three middle schools in the fall of 2010. Input has been taken throughout the rezoning process and the draft zones will be the recommended zones. Please refer to the Frisco ISD website for more information at http://www.friscoisd.org/. In addition to setting zones, the Board will consider limiting additional middle school transfers out of the six newly constituted middle schools for one year to ensure consistency in the enrollment numbers for the first year of opening the three new schools. An additional communication will be sent following the final decision and information will also be updated on the website. Principals will be named in March and letters will be sent to next year’s students, who will also be involved in the mascot naming process. Thank you.

New Laws Concerning Child Passenger Safety Seats

There is a new law effective September 1, 2009, that is listed below regarding child passenger safety seats:

TRC § 545.412. Child Passenger Safety Seat Systems; Offense.

  • (a)  A person commits an offense if the person operates a passenger vehicle, transports a child who is younger than eight years of age, unless the child is taller than four feet, nine inches, and does not keep the child secured during the operation of the vehicle in a child passenger safety seat system according to the instructions of the manufacturer of the safety seat system.
  • (b)  An offense under this section is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not more than $25 for the first offense and not more than $250 for a second or subsequent office.

Tickets for this offense cannot be issued until June 1, 2010.  Police officers are allowed to issue a warning before that date.  However, the old law remains in effect until then and requires children younger than five and less than 36 inches in height be in a child safety seat—and tickets can still be issued for this violation.
