2010 Fisher Elementary Spelling Bee
This Bee was our best ever. The students studied very hard and were prepared for some extremely difficult words that several of the adults in the audience could not spell. The ending of the Bee was particularly tense, and the audience would groan when Mr. Lawson read the words the kids were to spell. When we finally had a champion, the students in the audience (all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders) spontaneously came to their feet, clapping and cheering.
Here is a video clip of the winner, Simran Nanda's, winning moment.

King, Lawson, and Cuff Accept TBEC Award for Fisher
Mrs. Lawson, with 5th Grade teacher Mrs. King and PTA President Julie Cuff attended the TBEC Award ceremony in San Antonio. They accepted the TBEC Award on behalf of the staff and parents of Fisher Elementary.
The Texas Business & Education Coalition (TBEC) Honor Roll recognizes schools for academic performance, and honors those students, teachers, principals, and superintendents who have won their championships in the classroom. TBEC identifies Honor Roll schools by analyzing three years of performance data for every public school in Texas. A TBEC Honor Roll school must have a high percentage of students meeting state standards on every TAKS test for three consecutive years. That's the easy part; TBEC Honor Roll schools also have the highest percentage of students performing at the state's most rigorous standard -commended- in every subject. The selection criteria also considers the school's demographics, number of subjects tested and grade levels. Compared to other schools with similar demographics, TBEC Honor Roll schools have demonstrated the highest levels of academic achievement year after year.
With the beginning of a school year comes the need for reminders regarding good health habits and prevention of illness. We are sure you are aware of the continued interest regarding H1N1 (swine flu). You are probably also aware
that the Centers for Disease Control issued modified recommendations to school districts regarding this health concern.

Playground Usage After School
We want to make sure all of our children are safe and accounted for through dismissal time. If your children want to play soccer after school, they may not begin until after everyone from 2nd grade has been dismissed. Please remember that there is no school supervision after dismissal or for the pick-up games of soccer. Parents must monitor their own children.
As a reminder, please note that bikes/scooters/skateboards may not be ridden on school property. Parents/Students/Siblings of students must walk bikes and scooters and hold skateboards.
