Intro to Criminal Justice (CTEC) – (1/2 credit)10th -12th
Recommended Prerequisite: Law I or Law II
This course provides instruction in the history and philosophy of security, ethical considerations, the nature and impact of security, and an overview of security systems, agencies, and practices. The course includes concepts and skills for security officers plus Texas’ rules and regulations; security specialist training and certification, organization of personnel, risk analysis and surveys, security applications, security problems; and the future of security services. Instruction is based on the content required by the Texas Board of Private Investigators and Private Security Agency as a recommended prerequisite to licensing by the state. Students will have the opportunity to fully explore the career field of criminal justice. This course is an overview of the philosophy, ethical considerations and educational requirements. This is a Tech Prep articulated course.
Intro to Security Services (CTEC)–(1/2 credit)10th-12th

Court & Criminal Procedures (CTEC) – (1 credit) 11th -12th
Recommended Prerequisite: Law I or Law II
This course covers the entire judiciary process from jury selection through the appellate process. Civil and criminal procedures will be studied with a focus on the detail work with which the American judicial system operates.
Crime in America (CTEC) - (1 credit) 11th -12th grade
Prerequisite: Intro to Criminal Justice or Intro to Security Services
A course will introduce the student to American crime problems in an historical perspective; social policy affecting crime; impact and crime trends; social characteristics of specific crimes; and prevention of crime. This is a Tech Prep articulated course.
Crime Scene Investigation (CTEC) - (1 credit)11th -12th
Prereq: Intro to Criminal Justice or Intro to Security Svs
This course provides a basic understanding of investigative theory, collection and preservation of evidence, and sources of information. Methods of conducting interviews and interrogations will also be covered. Students will be provided opportunities to discover uses of forensic sciences and preparation for cases and trials.
Criminal Law (CTEC) – (1 credit) 11th -12th grade
Prerequisite:Intro to Criminal Justice or Intro to Sec Svs
This course explores the criminal justice system from the nature and impact of crime to the correctional institutions. Texas and federal statutes and policies will be the basis of the study. Additionally, the juvenile justice system will be analyzed and evaluated.
Emergency Communications (CTEC) - (1 credit) 11th -12th
Prereq: Intro to Criminal Justice or Intro to Security Svs
This course provides a basic understanding of emergency communciations, or dispatching that occurrs in the 911 system and among the protective services. Students will be exposed to the Phonetic alphabet used by law enforcement and to the CAD dispatching software through simulation and use of industry-standard equipment. Students will also be exposed to modules from FEMA and have the opportunity to be certified in various modules through FEMA.
