Ready, Set, Teach I (CTEC) – (2 credits) 11th -12th grade
Recommended Prerequisite: Child Development and Preparation for Parenting
Ready, Set, Teach! is a unique field-based internship which provides students a background knowledge of child and adolescent development principles as well as principles of effective teaching practices. Students in Ready, Set, Teach! work under the joint direction and supervision of both a classroom teacher and exemplary educators in direct instructional roles with elementary, middle, and/or high school-aged students. Students from this class plan and direct individualized instruction and group activities, prepare instructional materials, assist with record keeping, make physical arrangements and complete other responsibilities of classroom teachers. The students are involved in observations as well as direct student instruction. Students are involved in instruction from their classroom teacher and are involved in supervised field-based observations and applications of principles/practices studied in the class. Students must have their own transportation to and from the elementary school. This course may require a background check. This is a Tech Prep articulated course. This course provides a “waiver” of 1/2 credit of P. E. for each semester completed in addition to any credit received in this course. Students must complete an application/interview and be approved to enroll in this course. Materials fee required for this course.

This course provides occupationally specific training designed to develop knowledge and skills for employment in the area of child care and guidance. Content includes business management procedures, safety, sanitation, influences on child growth and development, interactions impacting children’s behavior, and techniques for providing care and guidance for children. Instruction will be provided through the FISD childcare center and classroom instruction. This is a non-paid, hands-on, work-based learning course. Students must have their own transportation to and from the day care center. A TB test is required. This course may require a fingerprint background check with fee paid by student.
