Are you creative? Do you love Photoshop? Well this is the course for you! You will learn all about Photoshop as well as InDesign and Illustrator.

Each student will begin to create an original works portfolio and expand on it throughout the year.

Students will have several opportunities to compete in various Digital Graphics contests.  These are ideal times for a student to showcase their work and gain recognition and/or various prizes. 

Guest speakers from the industry and post secondary institutions plus field trips to advertising/graphic firms will enhance your knowledge of this exciting and growing career.

Advertising Design I (CTEC) (2 credits) 11th-12th grade
Prerequisite: Digital Graphics & Animation, Multimedia Design (BIMM) or Teacher Recommendation
Advertising Design 1 includes the knowledge and application of creative design, theory, principles, and practices as related to communication media. The course focuses on creating and composing images for a variety of graphic design solutions. Emphasis is on originality of work. Use of computers, current software, digital cameras and scanners. Course is project based and students must be self motivated and willing to put in the time and effort necessary to meet the required high-quality standards. This course provides a “waiver” of 1/2 credit of P. E. for each semester completed in addition to any credit received in this course. Materials fee required for this course.

 

Advertising Design II (CTEC) (2 credits) 11th-12th grade
Prerequisite: Advertising Design I

Advertising Design 2 is a pre-employment laboratory course with job specific training for entry-level employment in advertising design careers. The course expands on
Advertising Design 1 including further creation and design of graphic materials for use as ornamentation, illustration, and advertising. It uses image editing and vector graphic packages as well as digital photography and includes basic principles of marketing and entrepreneurship. Business strategies and technical knowledge needed for employment in advertising agencies are emphasized. Knowledge about career opportunities, requirements, and expectations and the development of workplace skills prepare students for success. Course is project based and students must be self motivated and willing to put in the time and effort necessary to meet the required highquality standards.
