Cougar Happenings

Parent Information Night: Tues., Feb. 9, 6-7:00 p.m.

For the parents/guardians of our students who will be 7th and 8th graders next year, we will have our annual Parent Information Night in the cafeteria. We will discuss registration and courses for next year. Within a few days later your students will be registering for their classes for the 2010-2011 school year.

Open Nomination for G.T. Students

The G/T Referral window is now open. If you are interested in having your child assessed for G/T, please contact Eydie Simpson so that a referral packet can be sent home with your student. Please note that the window will close on Friday, February 19th, so all information will need to be returned by February 19th.  Students already in the Frisco ISD G/T program do not need to retest. Click for Flyer.

Special Camera for Special Kids

Students in our Life Skills Class (LFC) can now be even moreYearbookCam involved in their yearbook class. Thanks to our generous P.T.A., a special camera produced by Vtech and modified by Enabling Devices has been purchased which features a large button and a switch, making it possible for our LFC students to manipulate the camera to take pictures. We are grateful to our P.T.A. for providing this technology so our special kids can be more involved in the class!

SpecTAKular Saturdays Begin February 6!

A requirement of the Federal "No Child Left Behind" mandate, the Student Success Initiative (SSI) requires eighth grade students to pass the math and reading TAKS tests (also known as “Meeting Standards”) to advance to the ninth grade. Sixth and seventh graders have no such requirement.

The TAKS test uses a "scale score" rather than the familiar 100 percentile grading system. Students must make a 2100 scale score to pass each test; however, each test may have different requirements (determined annually by the Texas Education Agency) to reach that 2100 level. If a student achieves a 2400 or higher they have distinguished themselves as "Commended," and should be quite proud! Click here for last year's test requirements.

At Clark, we don't believe in waiting until a student is in eighth grade to prepare for the SSI requirements. Teachers employ a variety of strategies in order toensure that ourstudents achieve apassing and/or commended score on the TAKS. One way we target our students' success on TAKS is through our upcoming "SpecTAKular Saturdays." Beginning Saturday, February 6, we will offer exciting and challenging activities and instruction at the Clark campus. Breakfast by Chick-fil-A, prizes, games, and a pizza lunch will add to the fun. SpecTAKular Saturdays will occur from 8:30-11:30 a.m. on February 6, 20, 27; March 6, 27; and April 10, 17, 24. We hope your student will join us! All Clark students are welcomed!

School Report Card for Clark Middle School

On January 21, paper copies of Clark's school report card were sent home with your students and parents were notified of that card through an e-mail message. This is a requirement of the Federal "No Child Left Behind" legislation. You may download the School Report Card here, and a parent letter in English and en Espanol.
