What you can do to get ready for College as a Junior
September
- Discuss college plans with parents
- Counselors will visit classrooms with information on college admissions process
- Attend the College Fair
- Create or update your resume of school activities, honors, awards, and community service
October
- Register for the PSAT
- Take PSAT
November
- Consult college reference books in the guidance center
- Request college catalog information and financial aid information
- Run internet searches on prospective colleges
- Attend the Financial Aid Workshop at CHS with parents
December-January
- Talk with visiting college students home for the holidays
- Continue researching and narrowing your college choices
February-March
- Register for the April or May SAT and/or ACT tests
- Initiate a study program in preparation of SAT or ACT
- Make sure you have enrolled in college preparatory classes for senior year
April
- Register for the June SAT or ACT
- Attend college campus visitation programs designed for juniors
- Take the April SAT or ACT
- Attend Rising Senior Night with your Parents – CHS auditorium
May/June
- Take the June SAT or ACT
- Write or call for applications for admission. Begin to fill them out over the summer. Spend time writing essays. Note the deadlines.
- Update your resume
- During the summer, visit college campuses
- Participate in college summer programs in areas of interest to you
