Frisco Middle School students have been named winners of the local Patriot’s Pen Contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Lee Myrben, Post Commander of VFW Post 8273, and post members presented savings bonds to the student winners on November 15, 2008. From among the 154 FISD middle school student entries, a panel of VFW Post Members judged the winners for the best personal articulation of this year's theme, "Why America's Veterans Should Be Honored."

The first place winner Gabriela Rangel attends Pioneer Heritage Middle School, second place winner  Mark Collins attends Staley Middle School, and the third place winner Si Qi Jiang, who was unable to attend the presentation, attends Scoggins Middle School.

The winning entries were submitted for consideration for the VFW District Contest.
