Update to Request to Disclose Records of Ms. McGee (October, 2006)

I first want to apologize to our community. We have tried very hard to take the high road in the matter of this employment concern, but the continued efforts of the teacher to discuss her allegations in the media has forced us to attempt to more publicly respond.

We sought permission from Ms. McGee to disclose her records to give FISD the ability to more fully respond to the public and the media regarding her allegations. Her response was to request that we disclose the records of all those involved in the dispute and to hold a Town Hall meeting in front of the PTA to discuss the dispute.

Ms. McGee continues to use diversionary tactics in order to mislead the public into thinking that she has been punished for taking children on a school-authorized outing to the Dallas Museum of Art.

Ms. McGee and her attorney want to make this matter out to be a First Amendment case; but in fact, it is merely all about her overreaction to a memo that she received last spring from her principal which expressed valid and ongoing concerns about her job performance, but which sought no disciplinary action. Ms. McGee requested an administrative review of the memo, which went through two levels of appeal and was at the third level with the School Board before she and her representative began focusing on the field trip. This hearing was in public at her request.

Ms. McGee continues to be an employee of the District and receives her full salary and benefits. Her actions are regrettable because they distract from the core mission and goal of the Frisco Independent School District – to provide an excellent education for all of its students.
