Scoggins Speller Takes Second Place at Collin County Bee

Scoggins Student Takes Second at County BeeKarthik Nemmani, an eighth grader at Scoggins Middle School, took second place at the Collin County Spelling Bee, hosted by Plano ISD on Feb. 8 at Plano West Senior High.

Nearly 50 students from Frisco, Plano, Prosper, Allen, McKinney and Lovejoy participated in the competition. Many won school or district spelling bees to advance to the competition.

The contest went to 40 rounds before Naysa Modi, a student from Prosper ISD, took the top prize. Modi is a three-time competitor in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. She advances to compete at the Dallas Sports Commission Regional Spelling Bee on March 24.

Five other Frisco ISD students advanced to the Collin County Bee after placing in the top six at the Frisco ISD Spelling Bee on Jan. 24 at Frisco High School.

Congratulations to all the FISD participants, including Karthik, who represented the District very well:

  • Praneeth Akkineni, eighth grader at Wester Middle School
  • Avaneesh Mantrala, fifth grader at Ashley Elementary
  • Rajas Ketkar, seventh grader at Cobb Middle School
  • Aniketh Yatam, seventh grader at Hunt Middle School
