Seven Middle School Students Compete in State Geographic Bee

Apr 03, 2017

Frisco ISD sent a record number of middle school students to compete in the Texas Geographic Bee, held March 31 in Bedford.

The bee featured 100 of the state's smartest geography students in grades five through eight, based on their performance on written tests.

A total of seven FISD students earned the right to participate. Of those, Sauruv Garg of Maus Middle School finished ninth in the competition overall.

Each year, thousands of schools in the United States participate in the National Geographic Bee using materials prepared by the National Geographic Society.

The contest is designed to encourage teachers to include geography in their classrooms, spark student interest in the subject and increase public awareness about geography.

In Frisco ISD, all middle school students are given a multiple choice test and the top ten at each school, based on both speed and accuracy, are chosen to compete in a school geographic bee.

The winner of each school bee is then required to take an online qualifying test for the state bee.

Congratulations to all the school winners, including those who advanced to the state competition:
