Frisco High Student Wins Rotary Club's Four Way Test Contest

Feb 17, 2017

Daniel Leon, a junior from Frisco High School, took first place in the Frisco Rotary Club’s Four Way Speech contest in early February.

Rotary members report that all participating students did very well and were passionate about their topics. In addition to Leon, winners were Charles Wolfe of FHS, second place, and Melic Belong of FHS, third place.

The speech topics were required to relate to the Rotarian Four Way Test, which asks the following questions:

  • Is it the truth?
  • Is it fair to all concerned?
  • Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  • Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

The Four Way Test came out of the Great Depression when a business owner named Herbert J. Taylor faced possible bankruptcy and developed these four questions as part of his hope in salvaging his company. Later when he was director of Rotary International he allowed Rotary International service clubs to have rights to the test.
