New Principals Announced
Principals for the new schools opening in the fall of 2010 were named by the Board of Trustees at the March 8 regular meeting. The new principals are Mary Webb, currently assistant principal of Ogle, now assigned to lead Purefoy Elementary; Shannon Acosta, currently assistant principal at Tadlock, will be principal of Sonntag Elementary; Phil Evans, currently assistant principal of Liberty High School, will serve as principal of Cobb Middle School; Dr. Gary Nye, currently assistant principal of Wester Middle School, will serve as principal of Hunt Middle School; Cory McClendon, currently assistant principal at Roach Middle School, will serve as principal at Maus Middle School. Dr. Rick Reedy, Superintendent of Schools, stated that district officials were impressed with the overall quality of this year’s applicants, which made it a difficult decision.
Preliminary Work Funded for Possible Administrative Building
Richard Wilkinson, Assistant Superintendent of Facilities and Finance, shared
recommendations with the FISD Board of Trustees for construction manager at risk for the possible administration building. Pogue was selected for preconstruction work to secure a guaranteed maximum price; the cost for this will be $5,000. This preliminary work would give the board information regarding possible savings in construction costs at this time. Work beyond preconstruction would require the board to approve full construction of the administration building, which has not occurred at this time.
Head Start, Kindergarten, and Pre-K Registration
Head Start Program Pre-Registration is scheduled for April 7 and 8, 2010 - from 8:30 a.m.- 3 p.m. on Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Thursday. Registration will be held at the Early Childhood School located at 10330 Red Cedar.
Kindergarten Round-Up is schedule for April 12 – 16, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with extended hours 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 13. Kindergarten students should register at the campus they are zoned to attend; students who will attend Purefoy or Sonntag Elementary will register at the school in the zone where they currently live.
The dates for screening and registration for the Qualifying District Pre-School program are done by appointment only and are as follows: Language Screening: April 15 & 20 from 4-7 p.m. and April 17 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Other Qualifying Categories: July 21, 23, 28, & 30 from 9 a.m. –3 p.m. and July 22&29 from 2-7 p.m. All Qualifications: August 4 & 6 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and August 5 from 2-7p.m. Call 469-633-3825 to make an appointment.
Parents or guardians registering students must bring driver’s license, proof of residence, student birth certificate and social security, and immunization records.
Staff Honors
Dr. Wes Cunningham, the Director of the CTE Center, was awarded the Administrator's Distinguished Service Awards from Business Professionals of America (BPA). The award recognizes those superintendents and administrators who: contribute above-normal expectations of Business Education programs; enthusiastically support BPA; and perform outstanding special acts or services in the promotion of Career and Technical Education. Only two Administrators in the State of Texas receive this award at the BPA State Leadership Conference which was held in Fort Worth this March.
Dr. Derek McDowell was named Coach of the Year by the state Academic Decathlon program. McDowell is the coach of Liberty High School’s Ac Dec team which were state champs last school year and ranked sixth in the state this year. Centennial High School, under the coaching of Jeff Wolford ranked third for medium sized schools. Wakeland and Frisco High School were among the top 15 in the state, as well.
Bright Named No Child Left Behind “Distinguished” School
Bright Elementary was recently honored as a No Child Left Behind “distinguished” school. This is the first such award for a Frisco ISD school. At the March School Board Meeting Dr. Reedy introduced Susie Graham, principal of Bright Elementary, speaking to her leadership and accomplishments at Bright.
Ms. Graham introduced the following support members from Bright and
thanked them for their service to Bright: Laurie Richmond(4th grade teacher), Julie Parker(PTA president), Lisa Dominy(3rd grade teacher ) and Audie Adkins(Community Resource Liaison) and Becca Bustillos(Assistant Principal). Ms. Graham described the partnerships with the community which helped with the success at Bright, including St. Philips and other community partners. Three years of data is evaluated in determining receipt of this award including student performance on TAKS, meeting Adequate Yearly Progress, and being an Exemplary/Recognized school. To be considered, 40 percent or more of a school’s student population must be on free and reduced lunch.

Dates to Remember
- April 2nd and May 28th are now both regular school days to make up days missed due to bad weather.
- FISD schools and business offices will be closed the week of March 15 through 19 for Spring Break.
