Board officers set
The Frisco ISD School Board, at its regular June meeting, has once again elected officers for the coming year.  Dan Mossakowski   will remain president and Renée Ehmke and Brenda Polk will once again serve as vice president and secretary, respectively.  Laura Ellison was sworn in for her fifth term on the board and Ehmke and Mossakowski were also sworn in for their third terms.

FISD BUDGET NEWS
The FISD Board of Trustees received and approved the final budget for 2010-2011.  The balanced Maintenance and Operations budget calls for no tax rate increase – it will remain at $1 per $100 of assessed valuation.  It is proposed that the Interest and Sinking Fund will need a three cent tax rate increase to make the district’s debt payment for the year.  Use of TIF and reserve funds will allow the District to hold this proposed tax increase to three cents. The final tax rate will be approved after September 1. See the board notes for more information. http://www.friscoisd.org/inside/board/agendas.htm

Centennial High School Addition and Administration/Board Complex Approved
The Board approved the Final Guaranteed Maximum Price for the Centennial High School addition of $5,981,930, which is $211,750 less than the initial GMP. CORE Construction will be building the addition, which will accommodate up to 300 more students. The addition will be ready by the fall of 2011. The district has developed plans and a design for a high school addition that can be built as each school reaches capacity. The Board also approved moving forward with the contract for the construction of the administration building/board complex. The total turn-key cost (including development costs, equipment) will be about $27 million. Pogue Construction is building the facility, which will cost $3-4 million (15 percent) less than previous estimates due to the current construction cost climate. See board highlights for more information - http://www.friscoisd.org/inside/board/agendas.htm

Online Registration is coming

Parents of current FISD students be watching for a letter coming to your home in late July. It will include a code for your students that will allow you to go online to check your enrollment information and make most changes as needed. Much of the information from our student information system will be pre-populated for your convenience and any changes you make will be transferred as you continue the process for multiple children. A signature sheet and a proof of residence is needed to receive a schedule or finalize your class placement. The letter will include information on help nights if you need internet access or assistance. We look forward to this new process that will reduce paper usage, improve accuracy of data and be more convenient for parents.

FISD students give
During the school year, all FISD schools have a designated time to conduct a food drive for the Frisco Family Services food pantry. In the 2009-2010 school year, the FISD students, staff and parents gathered 83,236 pounds of food. This represents more than 20 percent of what was distributed to families all year. This is an incredible testimony to the generous spirit of all involved and is in addition to the many donations generated to assist with relief in Haiti.

Check out the website at www.friscoisd.org for a year in review and other great news about your FISD schools and the district. You can also find important dates to remember for the back-to-school events. Thanks for a great school year and we look forward to a wonderful 2010-2011.
