Students at Liberty High School have once again won the nation’s top awards for high school journalism.
This spring, Liberty’s digital news site Wingspan received the most prestigious honors awarded by both the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) and Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA).
Wingspan won the NSPA Online Pacemaker for the third year in a row and also won the Broadcast Pacemaker in fall 2017. Entries are judged by teams of professionals based on the following criteria: coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership, design, photography and graphics.
In addition, Wingspan was awarded a Gold Crown from CSPA. Only 12 high schools nationwide received either a Gold Crown or Silver Crown for their digital news site. Of those, Wingspan was just one of two sites given a Gold Crown with the remaining 10 receiving a Silver Crown. Winners are chosen based on their excellence as shown by design, photography, concept, coverage and writing.
Wingspan features both written and video content, including news, sports and opinion coverage of events and activities at Liberty High School.
2017-18 student editors are Brooke Colombo, Megan Lin and Keegan Williams. Their adviser is Brian Higgins.
