Memorial High School will open with Jason K. Nitsch directing the band program.
Nitsch is coming to Texas from Fountain-Ft. Carson High School in Colorado, where he has served as director of bands. He has 18 years of experience as a professional educator at the middle school and high school level. He has also served as associate and assistant band director at Klein Collins High School, Deer Park High School, Dulles and Lake Olympia Middle Schools.
The new director does have some Texas roots. He earned his bachelor of music education degree from Baylor University in Waco. He has a master’s degree from Boston University and is in the final stages of completing his doctoral studies in music education from Boston University.
“The Memorial students are coming from very strong band programs. I am very pleased to have someone of Mr. Nitsch’s experience developing our brand-new program,” said Principal Jennifer Redden.
An alumnus of the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps (Drum and Bugle Corps International), he has been very involved with the drum corps community, most recently serving as the brass caption head at Forte Drum and Bugle Corps for its final season in 2012 and as the current educational staff coordinator for the Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps.
Nitsch is also an accomplished composer for the field, stage and screen. He is an active arranger, drill designer, composer and adjudicator for marching bands. He works around the country as a consultant and production designer for marching bands.
