Academic Decathlon Teams Dominate Regional Meet
Congratulations to Lebanon Trail and Lone Star high schools, first place overall finishers in their respective divisions at the Academic Decathlon Regional Competition. Both teams advance to the state competition in February, along with teams from six other FISD high schools.

Liberty High School Receives Grant from Walmart
Liberty High School is the proud recipient of a community grant from Walmart. The school will use the $2,000 to assist with incoming freshmen transitioning from middle school to high school. Liberty serves more than 1,900 students in grades 9-12.
Scoggins Student Wins Frisco ISD Spelling Bee
Kudos to Scoggins Middle School eighth grader Karthik Nemmani, who correctly spelled the word “guichet” to win first place in the Fourth Annual Frisco ISD Spelling Bee. Nemmani and five other top finishers advance to the Collin County bee next month. Read more.

More than 120 Frisco ISD students will advance to the Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Leadership Conference, a record number. Students racked up many top finishes at the Regional Leadership Conference. Check out the full list of state qualifiers!
Student Violinist Performed at Famed Sydney Opera House
Did you know? Kevin Kao of Heritage High School, a senior violinist, performed in the inaugural High School Honors Performance Series at the Sydney Opera House this past summer. Kao was selected to represent the finest international high school performers, according to his orchestra teacher Mary Elizabeth Balkema.
Independence Drum Major Selected for Leadership Position
Lexi Para, drum major in the Independence High School band, has been named a drum major for The Blue Stars Drum & Bugle Corps from La Cross, Wisconsin for the 2018 season, according to Christopher Cansler, Independence band director. The Blue Stars are part of Drum Corps International, a performance and competition non-profit organization.
Frisco, Wakeland Win District Swimming and Diving Team Titles
Frisco High School won the boys team title and Wakeland High School won the girls team title Saturday at the District 10-5A Swimming and Diving Championship at Bruce Eubanks Natatorium. The Frisco boys finished with 105 points, holding off runner-up Liberty High (95). The Wakeland girls piled up 112 points and Frisco High was second with 100.
Liberty High’s Jiwoo Oh set a pool record in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 57.80 seconds. Read more.
