Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher to Chair National Convention for Black Journalists

Frisco ISD teacher Eva Coleman has been named chairwoman of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) 2018 convention this summer in Detroit. Coleman will lead a team in planning and organizing the convention, which is annually the largest gathering for journalists of color.

Coleman is executive producer of Frisco ISD-TV, the District-wide news broadcast produced by students at the Career and Technical Education Center. Named Student Television Network Teacher of the Year in 2012-13, she has served NABJ in numerous capacities, including chapter president, deputy regional director and regional conference co-chairperson.

Liberty Student Earns Spot in Honor Band and Invitation To Perform Solo

Eddie Chen of Liberty High School has been named a member of the 2018 Music for All Honor Band of America and will travel to Indianapolis in March to perform.

Chen, who plays the alto saxophone, also won the Plano Symphony Orchestra's Concerto Competition in the Senior Winds Division. He will perform as a guest featured soloist with the Plano Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, March 24th at the Eisemann Center. Richard Huang of Liberty High School, who plays the oboe, was runner-up in the Concerto Competition in the Senior Winds Division.

Reedy, Heritage Divers win District 10-5A Championships

Reedy High School’s Jameson Crandell and Heritage High School’s Katie Ordieres won the District 10-5A 1-meter diving titles Thursday at the FISD Bruce Eubanks Natatorium.

Crandell set a meet record in the boys division with 422.1 points, putting him in front of runner-up Harrison Kaster (328.1) of Centennial High School. Ordieres overcame an ankle injury to score 287.85 points in the girls division, and Liberty High School’s Bailey Wright (248.4) was second.

FISD Wrestling Programs Claim Team and Individual Championships

Liberty High School won the boys team title at the Trojan Classic in Euless last weekend, while Lone Star High School won the boys team title at the Cougar Classic in The Colony. Six FISD wrestlers won individual titles at the events:

  • Liberty’s Savannah West (girls 110-pound class at Trojan Classic)
  • Wakeland’s Brady Mistr (boys 145-pound class at Trojan Classic)
  • Lone Star’s La’Stot Pleasant (boys 132-pound class at Cougar Classic)
  • Lone Star’s Michael Gaisoa (boys 220-pound class at Cougar Classic)
  • Frisco’s Tyler Brennan (boys 106-pound class at Cougar Classic)
  • Frisco’s Thomas Schneider (boys 120-pound class at Cougar Classic)
