The Reedy High School boys basketball team won four games in three days to claim the championship Saturday at the Highway 5 Classic.
Reedy won the final game 51-49 over Simsboro High School (Louisiana) to claim the title. The third-annual event was hosted by three high schools -- Anna, Melissa and Van Alstyne -- and featured 18 boys teams.
“Our guys showed some grit this weekend,” Reedy coach Jon Youngblood said. “We were down late in each contest. We executed late-game situations great the entire weekend.”
Reedy (12-2), which is only in its second season of varsity play, opened the tournament with two wins Thursday: 70-66 over Bonham and 71-64 over Van Alstyne. Reedy beat Lake Dallas 56-45 in a semifinal Friday to advance to the championship game.
Reedy junior post Nolan Matthews was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. Senior wing Noah Goss and junior wing Braden Griffiths were selected to the all-tournament team.
