The Wakeland High School baseball team advanced to the state tournament of the UIL baseball playoffs after a sweeping Mansfield Legacy in a best-of-3 regional finals series on June 1 and 3.
Wakeland took control of the series by winning the first game, 6-4, on Thursday night. The Wolverines jumped out to an early lead in game two on Saturday and never looked back, finishing off the Broncos with a 5-1 win and punching their ticket to the state tournament.
The Wolverines will play a state semifinal matchup on Thursday, June 8 at 4 p.m. against Port Neches-Groves High School at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
The winner of Thursday's game will advance to play either Corpus Christi Moody or Grapevine in the 5A state championship on Saturday, June 10 at 12 p.m. That game will also be played at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
