Frisco ISD advanced two teams, along with two individuals, to participate in the UIL Golf State Tournament this month. The girls championships were held May 15-16 and the boys tournament was held May 22-23.
Lebanon Trail High School's Olivia Mitchell came strong out of the gate playing at the 4A championships at Slick Rock Golf Course at Horseshoe Bay in Marble Falls. The freshman finished ninth overall in the tournament. Congratulations Olivia for qualifying for state and representing Lebanon Trail in its inaugural year.
Liberty High School and Wakeland High School sent their girls' teams to the 5A championships played at Wolfdancer Golf Club in Bastrop.
Liberty's team, comprised of Darby Deans, Rakhi Shah, Sarah Buss, Tori Copeland and Loren Matrone finished fourth in the team standings with a combined score of 683 strokes during the two-day tournament. Deans also qualified as an individual and finished tied for 20th place.
Wakeland's team of Avery Watkins, Katelyn Parker, Tatum Lewis, Laya Bhupatiraju and Maddie Hale finished in the top ten with a combined score of 710 strokes.
Centennial High School's Henry Frizzle is the lone state qualifier for the boys tournament after placing third at regionals. Frizzle shot scores 76 and 77 over the course of the two day tournament. His combined score of 153 strokes placed him in a tie for 16th place.
