Five athletes from three Frisco ISD high schools competed at the UIL State Tennis Tournament held Thursday, May 18 and Friday, May 19 in College Station.
In the 4A individual girls' classification, Navya Chunduru of Lebanon Trail High School had a fantastic state tournament run, winning her first match by a score of 6-2, 6-2. She eventually lost to the state champion, senior Alexa Rice from Boerne 6-4, 6-1, and placed third overall. Chunduru is the first-ever state medalist in athletics from Lebanon Trail.
In the 5A classification, girls’ doubles team Katie Strand and Trinity Vivona of Independence High School earned bronze medals, defeating College Station A&M Consolidated's Natalia Cruz-Vespa and Neha Gopal 6-1, 6-3. This is Vivona's second state tournament appearance.
Also in the 5A classification, individuals Quinn Lapoint from Independence and Lone Star High School's Abhishek Dayal both competed hard, but fell short in state quarterfinal matches in their rounds.
