Frisco ISD high school students brought home medals from the University Interscholastic League (UIL) state academic competitions this spring, with two individual state champions.
Bill Wang of Liberty High School was the state champion in science, while Hannah Lee of Wakeland High School was the state champion in social studies.
Students qualified to compete at the state level after placing in the top three individually or as a team at both the district meet in March and regional meet in April.
Several other students will compete later this month at the state UIL speech and debate competition.
The UIL offers nearly 30 academic contests. These activities, which exist to complement the academic curriculum, are designed to motivate students as they acquire higher levels of knowledge, to challenge students to confront issues of importance and to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of specific skills. Students are challenged to think critically and creatively, exhibiting much more than knowledge and comprehension.
