The Frisco Education Foundation is expanding its immensely popular Mindbender Academy to serve even more Frisco ISD middle school students.
Mindbender Academy encourages participants to explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art and math. Each day features fun, hands-on activities to extend learning outside the classroom.
This summer, the camp will be held in two separate sessions over a two-week period: Monday-Thursday, June 12-15, and Monday-Friday, June 19-23, 2017. Both weeks, families will have the opportunity to choose the morning camp, 8 a.m. to noon, or afternoon camp, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Registration is limited to one session per camper.
“We are excited to be able to expand our offering to 800 FISD students, which will include a project-based component we hope will give students the opportunity to take a deeper dive into a specific discipline they may have an interest in,” said Peter Burns, past president of the Frisco Education Foundation Board of Directors. “It is our hope that we can continue to inspire our Mindbender participants with fun and challenging activities that introduce them to multiple career opportunities within the STEaM fields.”
Mindbender Academy is open to all FISD students entering grades 6-8 in the 2017-2018 school year. The camp will be held at the Frisco ISD Career and Technical Education Center, 9889 Wade Boulevard in Frisco. The cost to participate is $150.
Registration will begin online at https://www2.mypaymentsplus.com/welcome on Friday, March 17 at 7 a.m. Due to the camp’s popularity and limited space, parents should plan to sign up at that time. Available spots typically fill up in less than an hour.
Participants will choose from these options:
- Monday-Thursday, June 12-15 – Project-Based Camp
Students will select one track and participate in related activities all week long. Tracks include: coding and game design, film, performing arts, health science and science.
- Monday-Friday, June 19-23 – “Traditional” Camp
Students will participate in activities in a different field each day. This includes exposure to science, technology, engineering, art and math.
