Students Named to All-State Bands, Orchestras and Choirs

Jan 15, 2016

A total of 46 Frisco ISD high school students have earned the most prestigious honor available to music students in Texas.

The Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) sponsors the Texas All-State audition process to promote students' dedication to their musical knowledge and skill and to encourage TMEA member directors to support their students in this development.

Each year, approximately 1,600 students are selected through a process that begins with more than 64,000 students from around the state vying for the honor to perform in one of 15 ensembles (bands, orchestras and choirs).

This competitive process begins throughout the state in auditions hosted by 28 TMEA Regions. Individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part.

From this ranking, a select group of band and choir students advance from their Region to compete against musicians from other Regions in seven TMEA Area competitions. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualify to perform in a TMEA All-State music group.

The process works a bit differently for orchestra students. Students named to All-Region String Orchestras submit their recordings directly to the state, where they are judged against all other orchestra students from across Texas to determine Area and All-State honors.

All-State students earn of the privilege of participating in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally-recognized conductors during the annual state TMEA Clinic/Convention, scheduled this year for February 10-13 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio. The convention will culminate on Saturday, February 13 with All-State students performing before thousands of attendees.

Congratulations to the following Frisco ISD students selected for this tremendous honor, which requires countless hours of hard work, practice and preparation.
