The Wakeland High School Band is headed for the UIL AAAA State Marching Band Competition this year. The band ranked among the Top 4 ensembles at the Area B competition at Pennington Field in Hurst on October 24, competing against 23 schools including three more of its fellow FISD schools. Band Director Gerry Miller said he is excited and proud of his band.
Centennial High School took 8th place at the area contest, Liberty took 11th, and Frisco High School took 14th. Heritage High School is newly-opened and doesn’t compete in the AAAA competitions yet.
Fine Arts Director and former FHS band director, Dr. Daryl Trent, said he “thought the performances were, without exception, the best I had seen (from the FISD bands) this season. We are in a very tough Area, and that is a good thing for all of our programs.”
