Steve Schkade, Frisco Wakeland tennis coach, has been honored by his alma mater, Texas A&M University at Commerce, with the Bobby Fox Outstanding Alumni Coach Award.
The Bobby Fox Outstanding Alumni Coach Award trophy is presented annually in memory of the late Bobby Fox, a star football player for the Lions and a former head coach and defensive coordinator for the Lions. He was Director of Athletics at Tarleton State University at the time of his death. The award was made possible by an endowment from his family.
Schkade graduated from Commerce in 1984 when it was still operating as East Texas State University. He has coached throughout Texas at Allen High School, Williams High School, Naaman Forest High School, Cooper High School and Frisco Middle School. He successfully led the Wakeland High School boys and girls to a district title in 2008, produced 11 regional qualifiers and 16 to all-district honors.
Schkade was honored along with two other coaches – Tosha Spain, Leon Spencer - who were also awarded the Bobby Fox award, as well as former athletes Agapius Amo, Bobby Bounds, Alan Crute and George Daskalakes, who were named to the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame, along with the members of the 1958 football team and the 1978 tennis team.
