Corbin D. finds book in locker
This Scoggins student was the first student to find his copy of I.Q. Independence Hall as part of Read It Forward.

Seventy-five Scoggins Middle School students found a new book in their lockers on Tuesday, October 6th as Scoggins kicked off the Read It Forward program.

The book is titled I.Q. Independence Hall by Roland Smith and once the students read and sign the book, they are meant to pass it on to other students. Students who have read the book may fill out a summary in the school library and answer some questions about the book correctly in order to win instant prizes.

The prizes are guitar picks with the word READ printed on them or key chains, etc. The guitar theme is because the book revolves around two children of rock star parents who discover they are being followed by terrorists. The students are also given tickets to put into a box of their choice to see if their name will be drawn to win gift cards, Wii bowling in the library, a basketball game with the boy’s coaches, and other fun prizes.

Students had been hearing about Read It Forward in reading classes and teachers have been wearing shirts marked 10/6 on the back but the title of the book was not announced until the students began opening their lockers and discovering the books wrapped in green or black construction paper.

The author Roland Smith will visit the campus in May, according to Scoggins’s Librarian Tammy Brightwell.

Leigh Ann Jones, Coordinator of Library Services for FISD, says a majority of FISD Middle Schools will be participating in Read It Forward this year.
