Frisco ISD Achieves Exemplary Rating in State’s Accountability System

July 30, 2010

The state released the 2010 ratings to the public on Friday, July 30, with Frisco ISD receiving an Exemplary rating.

Among individual FISD schools, 37 are Exemplary and five are Recognized. FISD’s rating is based on the absolute standard -- meaning there were no exceptions, required improvement or Texas Projection Measure considerations applied by the state, as is also the case for 26 of the schools. The primary indicator in assigning ratings is the percentage of students meeting the passing standard on the state assessment. Spring 2010 TAKS scores were released in May, and students in FISD performed well, with the percentage of students passing in each grade level and in each area tested remaining the same or increasing compared to the previous year, except for three grade levels in reading, which were one or two percentage points less. FISD officials were pleased with the performance of students; educators have been targeting math and science mastery among students, particularly at the secondary level.  Officials have stated that the emphasis of the district is on individual student success, continued improvement and student progress over time, and the closing of the gap among student groups. In determining accountability ratings, the state also looks at Completion Rate and Drop Out rate. FISD did not receive the Exemplary rating last year due only to the Completion Rate indicator.

“The fact that our district has achieved Exemplary status in the rating system is a testimony to the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff and the support of our parents,” Dr. Rick Reedy, Superintendent of Schools, stated. “For a large, fast-growth district, with increasing diversity and mobility, this is a high honor, and we acknowledge their efforts in this significant accomplishment.”

Despite reaching this milestone, Reedy expressed that the work for students is never done.

“We will continue to focus on our mission, knowing that the AEIS rating is but one of many indicators that demonstrate a district’s success,” he said. “We want to look at each student and the opportunities we provide so that when our students graduate they are prepared for whatever paths they choose.”
