Frisco ISD Campuses Kick Off Food Drives (September, 2008)
Rogers Elementary was one of the first campuses to kick off the food drives this year with a program called Canstruction. The campus collected 2249 cans and 2186 pounds of food for the local food pantry, according to Assistant Principal Derek Leary. Last year, the district as a whole collected 47,826 pounds of food. The center gives out just under 25,000 pounds a month on average. FISD’s contribution represents close to two months of operations of the pantry. The food drives are an important part of FISD’s support of the community and also a vital part of the district’s ongoing character education curriculum, which encourages students to be compassionate and to be community volunteers.
